The live-streamed event is free to watch, and marks the presentation of the AI and Music Festival and its first activity.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>AI and Music Festival<\/strong>, taking place at Barcelona\u2019s CCCB on the <strong>27th and 28th October 2021<\/strong> is an initiative of the <strong>S+T+ARTS program<\/strong> of the European Commission, and is organized by <strong>S\u00f3nar<\/strong>, <strong>UPC-Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Catalunya<\/strong> and <strong>betev\u00e9<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop is the first in a series of activities created by the festival\u2019s <strong>ThinkingLab<\/strong>. The ThinkingLab, <strong>which will be in operation from May until the dates of the Festival<\/strong>, is a space for debate, co-creation and experimentation bringing together international <strong>experts in Artificial Intelligence<\/strong> (musicians, technologists, cultural historians, scientists, programmers etc) with the goal of <strong>identifying and conceptualizing the main challenges and latest innovations in the application of AI to musical creation<\/strong>. The conclusions and lines of work that emerge from this laboratory will feed into the content of the festival in October, and will form the basis of future activities.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-38881 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.fiestaybullshit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Claire-L-Evans-1100x646.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1100\" height=\"646\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.fiestaybullshit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Claire-L-Evans-1100x646.png 1100w, https:\/\/www.fiestaybullshit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Claire-L-Evans-300x176.png 300w, https:\/\/www.fiestaybullshit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Claire-L-Evans-768x451.png 768w, https:\/\/www.fiestaybullshit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Claire-L-Evans-1536x901.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.fiestaybullshit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Claire-L-Evans.png 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1100px) 100vw, 1100px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Exploring connections between AI and Music\u2019<\/strong> fosters, from a humanist, scientific and creative perspective, an open dialogue between experts and the audience (both in-person and remotely connected), who will be able to contribute to the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>Joining the discussion will be <strong>3 artists<\/strong> who have made AI an integral part of their recent work:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Claire L. Evans<\/strong> of the USA based band <strong>YACHT<\/strong>, whose 2019 LP <em>Chain Tripping<\/em> used machine learning as part of the composition process.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jan St. Werner<\/strong>, one half of the German duo <strong>Mouse on Mars<\/strong>, whose recent <em>AAI (Anarchic Artificial Intelligence)<\/em>project, moves machine intelligence onto a central, practical and philosophical plane.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ivan Paz<\/strong>, a central figure in the live-coding scene, whose work foregrounds the use of Machine Learning in from-scratch composition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These artists will be joined by <strong>3 leading specialists<\/strong> selected by UPC whose combined expertise covers neural network training and speech synthesis, climate conscious applications of AI and algorithmic composition.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Michaela Milano<\/strong>, professor of Artificial Intelligence at <strong>University of Bologna<\/strong>. Her research activity has a particular focus on decision support and optimisation systems.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jordi Pons<\/strong>, researcher at <strong>Dolby Laboratories<\/strong>. He received a PhD in music technology, large-scale audio collections, and deep learning at the Music Technology Group (Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Javier Ruiz<\/strong> has a degree in Telecommunications Engineering at <strong>The Universitat Polit\u00e8cnica de Catalunya<\/strong>.
