051 Where and in what year was your first time playing vinyl? My dad had a record collection growing up so I started young, but my first records I collected and played was when I was 12 years old, I owned Dr. Dre’s The Chronic haha - I started off hip hop style before getting deep into funk and house music. What’s your current project that most excites you? I am excited to announce that I have a vocal and songwriting feature for an upcoming Louie Vega track ‘Feeling Good’ coming out on his label, Vega Records soon! I am also about to release my debut original project under Willy Soul on my best buddy, Jitwam’s label, TheJazzDiaries. My production style is eclectic mixing funk/soul/jazz and world music genres with house and dance music. My DJ style is even more diverse and I play at nightclubs, hi-fi bars, festivals and roller skating rinks/roller disco’s which require a different format of DJing as roller skaters groove differently from dancers! What was your career milestone? As a DJ, it was getting residencies at respected clubs like Good Room & Public Records plus becoming Music Director/Curator at rollerskating rinks like Flippers Roller Boogie Palace - Rockefeller Center, and Xanadu Roller Arts in Bushwick, Brooklyn. As a producer/artist, working with my hero, friend and Grammy Award Winning Producer, Louie Vega + Getting the opportunity to work with my best friend Jitwam, on his record label, TheJazzDiaries. Your favorite city? Such a difficult question that takes scholarly debate and depends on the time of the year. New York is where my roots are and has always blessed me with magic, so that is in the top tier! I do spend a lot of time in Mexico City, Lisbon, London, and Ibiza, where I love the artist communities and scenes, so I would say those cities too! Your legendary artist? It would be a dream to collaborate with Jamiroquai, Prince (RIP), J-Dilla, Erykah Badu or the band War! Your star record? Another difficult question! I love the Cumulonimbus (Pal Joey) remix of The Orb’s ‘Little Fluffy Clouds’ for closing out a club set, or Dr. Dre’s Remix of Rolling Stones, ‘Miss You’ for rollerskating rinks!
