062 FROM THE OUTSIDE, MY IMPRESSION IS THAT PARADISE IS MORE LIKE A BIG FAMILY THAN A REGULAR COMPANY. WOULD YOU AGREE? Yes absolutely, we are a family! I speak with people from my team almost every day, we don’t always agree on everything but if there’s an issue we’ll always find time to discuss it together. We’ve laughed and cried… sometimes within the same conversation, it’s a very unique work dynamic that I’m glad to be part of. I am lucky to have a team that has my back and that I can rely on! BEFORE YOUR WORK IN PRODUCTION, YOU WERE JAMIE JONES’S PERSONAL ASSISTANT. WHAT WAS THAT JOB LIKE? I was Jamie’s PA for about 7 years, it was a very rewarding job that I’m super grateful for. I learnt so much, so many new skills and a lot of knowledge about artists/music industry that I still now use. It was a role I had not done before and I basically learnt as I did the job. I worked across different areas of Jamie’s work and companies which was pretty demanding at times but that meant I learnt how to work under pressure, to meet multiple deadlines and to be more organised. I got the chance to live in different countries and travelled across Europe touring with him for a summer which actually gave me a better perspective of artist needs and how tiring it can be! Being his PA taught me how to pay attention to the little, finer details that essentially can make someone’s life easier, creating shortcut hacks and having to remember all these things. WHAT QUALITY WOULD YOU HIGHLIGHT IN JAMIE AS A BOSS? Jamie has a great attention to detail. He’ll see or pick up on things that not everyone does at first glance which I think is part of Paradise’s success and why it stands out as a party and a brand. He was always willing to explain or teach me new things with patience, for example during lockdown he taught me how to find, buy and rip vinyl which was really interesting and completely new to me! LET’S TALK ABOUT IBIZA — WHEN DID YOU FIRST VISIT THE ISLAND, AND WHAT MADE YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH IT? I first visited Ibiza in 2012, which was a very different experience to Ibiza now. I stayed at Ibiza Rocks Hotel and went to see Eric Prydz, Tiesto, Cream Ibiza, Together at Amnesia! Then in 2016 I started coming over for the summers working for Jamie. Ibiza has an undeniable energy that always brings people back. I love that there’s so many different things to do in Ibiza, it’s a beautiful island with incredible beaches. You can be in the middle of nature and then go to a super club to party with thousands of people. BEYOND ELECTRONIC MUSIC, WHAT OTHER MUSIC STYLES DO YOU LIKE? I actually very rarely listen to electronic music at home or when I’mworking. I guess I’m spoiled at all our Paradise shows and get to listen to 6 hours of electronic music there. I’m a big EDM lover, but you’ll usually find me listening to pop, rnb and acoustic music, give me something I can sing along to and I’m happy. FOR ESTHER CHAN, ELECTRONIC MUSIC IS… A way to express yourself whether it’s through dancing, singing, bringing people together, shaking off a bad day, celebrating a great day. I believe everything operates through a frequency which is why we are so naturally drawn to music.
