TIME LOST:

BEDOUIN: “MUSIC IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO US… IT’S WHAT DRIVES THE WHOLE NIGHT”.

Bedouin is an American-based music production and DJ partnership consisting of Tamer Malkiand Rami Abousabe. Together they share a broad sonic vision that pulls from their diverse influences owing to their Middle Eastern heritage, Western upbringing and worldly travels.

First things first. How did you enjoy your comeback to Ibiza after these last two years?

A: It feels amazing to be back on the island after a few years of uncertainty that the whole world. It’s great to see this community come back together…stronger than ever.

Can you describe your feelings on your first day there? What do you recall?

A: It was like returning home after being away for way too long. We were homesick in a way…there’s nowhere else like Ibiza.

You guys just debuted a residency at Pacha in Ibiza. What does the club feature that makes you feel at home?

A: Pacha is our new home for Saga on the Island, a big change from Heart. It’s one of the best clubs in the world and so much of it just feels right. From the history of the building to the recently renovated interior and killer sound system…it fits right in with our Saga story. An ever adapting and changing story. It’s a timeless place that has allowed us the space to grow beyond our wildest dreams.

You’ve had very special guests such as Bonobo, Deep Dish, and Damian Lazarus. What can you tell about the weekly masterclass delivered by these invitees?

A: Music is of the utmost importance to us…It’s what drives the whole night. This year, we invited artists who inspired us early on, friends who continue to inspire us, and rising legends who will inspire the next generation.

New and upcoming artists had their own space in there. Which new artists are you keeping track of?

A: We’re passionate about fueling the careers of upcoming artists, which is one of the main missions of our label Human By Default. We invited a handful of our label artists to play at Pacha this year such as Nandu, Hoomance, Santiago Garcia, Upercent, and Capoon. Keep an eye on these guys, they’re bound for great success.

You guys travel the world each week. Could you tell some differences between Ibiza and other places such as Tulum, New York, or Miami?

A: Well Miami is home half the year and Ibiza is home the other half. Brooklyn, New York was home for many years and was really the birthplace of Bedouin. Tulum is a special place too, we’re there every year…sometimes more than once a year. We’re honored that we get to spread our music across the globe.

What are the best cities around the globe to perform at the moment?

A: There really is no best city…all over the world we find people who want to enjoy the same thing… if you’re asking which city we enjoy best it’s normally the one with the most family and friends.

What are your next projects once the season is over?

A: We’re working on our debut album…we have been for nearly a decade. It’s years of music that we’ve mastered and changed overtime but it’s finally at a place where we’re ready to share it with the world.

Favourite place on the island?

Rami: For me, besides at Saga…my home. I don’t just move into a rental for the summer…I decorate and make it my own space so I really feel at home. We have friends and family in and out all summer and our homes are constantly filled with joy. I also love the art supply store…I spend a lot of time painting.

Tamer: Cala Olivera is one of my favorite places to spend time and relax. El Bigotes is one of the best places to eat with a beautiful view of the ocean. And of course, my home studio.

Best track of summer 2022?

A: Can’t pick one…but we are regularly updating our Spotify track ID playlists with some of our current favorite tunes.
