TIME LOST:

MAXINNE: “HAVING MY OWN LABEL AND PLATFORM IS A WAY FOR ME TO HAVE NO LIMITS ON HOW I CAN EXPRESS MYSELF AS AN ARTIST”.

HELLO MAXINNE, HOW ARE YOU? WHERE ARE YOU AT THE MOMENT?

Hey guys! I’m doing really well thank you, I’ve just got back home to the UK after playing in London and Frankfurt this weekend. Both shows were amazing, and making my debut in Frankfurt was special, the club, the people, everything made it a really good night, I can’t wait to go back already!

YOU HAD SOME GIGS IN LONDON,FRANKFURT, AND OF COURSE,IBIZA. HOW HAS YOUR SUMMER BEEN SO FAR?

This summer has been really good, I’ve played in some incredible places like Dubai,Singapore, Canada, Italy, UK,Ibiza and USA. In between gigs busy in the studio producing and working on some upcoming projects I’m excited to share.

SPEAKING OF IBIZA, HOW HAVE YOUR EVENTS ON THE ISLAND BEEN THIS SUMMER?

I recently played at Hï Ibiza for you guys in the Wild Corner and at Tantra in Playa Den Bossa. Closing the Wild Corner was special as it was my first time playing at Hï and closing sets are my favourite, there’s something really special about them. I love going on a journey with my set to end the night. Playing at Tantra was also really good, the refurb they’ve done to the venue has totally transformed it, the team there have worked really hard to get it ready for the summer so it was really nice to be a part of one of their first events of the season.

YOU HAVE KNOWN IBIZA FOR A LONG TIME AND HAVE LIVED HERE. WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER FROM YOUR TIME LIVING ON THE ISLAND?

I’ve been coming to Ibiza for around 10 years now but I did my first season living there in 2017 for 3 years including the winters so I really got to know the island more and also made lots of friends who live there full time now. To be surrounded by music all the time is the best and I’ll never get bored of it! It definitely feels like a second home. During the winters it’s much quieter so I spent a lot of time in the studio whilst going back to the UK for gigs. And during the summer I was the resident DJ at Tantra in Playa Den Bossa and hosting their radio show, I met a lot of people through the summers who I am still really close with today.

DO YOU MISS IBIZA? WHAT DO YOU MISS THE MOST?

I miss being surrounded by the best clubs and music scene everyday of the week. The sun, the Spanish culture, plus the bread and aioli.

WHERE ARE YOU CURRENTLY LIVING? HOW DOES IT HELP TO YOUR CAREER?

Currently living just outside of London in Southampton, UK. It’s a short travel to London which means I get to play some wicked shows in the city and
do studio sessions easily there as well. Lots of my friends in the industry live in London and also my booking agent so it’s always nice to catch up regularly.

THIS SEPTEMBER, YOU WILL BE ON TOUR IN THE US, WITH GIGS IN TORONTO, LOS ANGELES, DENVER, CHICAGO… WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS TOUR?

Some of the clubs I’ve played at before so I’m mega excited to return to those. It will be my first time playing in Denver so I can’t wait for that. I love playing in the US, the crowd are always so welcoming and bring so much energy. Chicago is definitely one of my favourite states to play, it’s where house music originated from so they really connect with the music!

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MUSIC SCENE IN EUROPE AND THE UNITED STATES?

It depends where you play in the US, each state is quite different to the next which I like as I get to play to different crowds every time which is fun. I think Miami and Brooklyn has quite a similar scene to parts of Europe, and then other states are into different styles. I find from talking and meeting people from the US they’re really open minded with music and they will see a lot of different DJs play.

MANY ARTISTS ARE FINDING SUCCESS IN THE UNITED STATES WITH NUMEROUS GIGS. DO YOU THINK IT’S A MARKET THAT CAN OPEN DOORS FOR YOU IN EUROPE?

I’ve been playing in the US for almost 2 years now and it’s definitely opened up a lot of doors for me throughout Europe. I want to keep growing and being able to share my music in more places around the world so the US is an amazing opportunity for this as its such a big country.

YOU HAVE A REMIX OF ELI AND FUR. HOW DID THIS COLLABORATION COME ABOUT?

They released their album on Anjunadeep and the team reached out to me about the remix. I’ve been following Eli & Fur for years and love what they do, when I heard the original track from their album ‘Temptation’ I knew straight away I wanted to do the remix. I put a club spin on it and took parts of the vocal and musical elements to make it into my style.

ONE OF YOUR PROJECTS IS TO CREATE YOUR OWN LABEL. WHY?

Having my own label and platform is a way for me to have no limits on how I can express myself as an artist, it’s a way for people to see and hear everything I’m about as a producer. There’s no boundaries on what you can do with it, events, label showcases, live streams, collaborations, albums, etc. I’m really excited to have complete creative control with something that’s my own and I want to support other producers on the label as well because I get sent so much great music which I would love to release.

HOW DO YOU WANT THE END OF 2023 TO BE FOR YOU?

This year will end having played more great shows around the world and hopefully sign my music to some great labels.
