TIME LOST:

Fabric….
What to write….well I have been playing here regularly for such a long time, perhaps 15 years, every year at least twice sometimes three times, almost like having a family get together. I am not going to gloss over the deaths by drugs, drugs are not my thing, most people know that, but to blame a club is typical British Political Scapegoating, (and to the guy who said Techno and Politics don’t mix…..even at this level your apathy has effect).
MP’s do drugs (even ..according to news paper reports…. the Home Affairs guy who apparently took his job title just a little bit too seriously) , people get access to drugs in UK prisons, so why scapegoat Fabric? Dangerous drug abuse is sadly with us and without sensible policy there will be higher risks, this is not Fabric’s fault or dare I say responsibility, sad and tragic it is though for the families left behind, especially as this closure will not solve anything, scapegoating a club neatly brushes away dealing with the necessity of a whole new approach to drugs by local and national government.
I will miss Fabric, the professionalism, the friendly passionate people that worked there, the great crowds, the immense sound system, it was (and could easily still continue to be if the council had a mature attitude) a cultural institution, it has rightly been named as one of the most important clubs in the World…..it’s music policy was solid throughout and it’s door policy wasn’t offensive despite being credible for so very long…so to lose this iconic club is not just sad in itself but will have ramifications to come for the UK. The only thing I will not miss is the lack of easy toilet facilities for the DJ in room 2, when you have a five hour set that is hard believe me, but seriously good bye Fabric, thanks for everything and good luck in the Appeal……if you win then then next time I play will be for free to help you claw back some money in all your losses. Love you guys (it was also a pleasure to record a mix cd in your series)
